Study Skills

It is an unfortunate that our nation does not hold education as a thing of importance.  If you’re here, then you too understand that a strong educational base is vital for the future of not only our students, but our nation!  Often schools teach a large array of subjects without ever once teaching students how to learn. As a result, we have found that virtually every student, from elementary school to grad school, has terrible study skills. Some students, of course, are much worse off than others, but across the board study skills are in short supply.

Our program in study skills targets a few particular skills that help students get to work on the high-value information—and save time wasted working on all the wrong things. Tutoring in study skills typically focuses on the following topics:

Strengthening new skills:

  • Problem-solving strategies,
  • Organizational habits
  • Efficiency algorithms,
  • Memory techniques,
  • Essay-writing heuristics, and
  • Reading comprehension skills

Weakening barriers to work:

      • Procrastination,
      • Poor motivation,
      • Lack of confidence,
      • Stress, and
      • Fear

We believe that it is wise to begin work on these skills as early as possible, but would not recommend tutoring in study skills for most students under 4th grade.

Obviously, we are willing to work with students with severe problems in their study habits; however, it is important to realize that tutoring in study skills is not only for students who struggle . It is clear to us that this course can be even more valuable to very strong students, helping to catapult them into even higher levels of achievement with far greater satisfaction .
