Mission Statement

Short version

Wired Minds Tutoring is committed to rekindling the love of learning that burns in all of us. Unfortunately in many, this fire has faded to a dim glow. Wired Minds comes alongside students to help answer questions, encourage and challenge students, and help keep them focused. With our help, a love for learning can once again burn with a raging passion in all students!

A Word From Barry

At Wired Minds we believe that children are born with an almost insatiable hunger to learn. This hunger might be likened to an inferno – and children are forever asking why?.Children LOVE to learn, and asking why only serves to fuel that fire. However, there is so much pressure today on children to perform, and fit into a mold of what people think success should look like, the once raging flame of desire often fades to a dim flicker—learning has ceased to be exciting.

The team at Wired Minds Tutoring is here to help! We put a fresh spin on how children are “tutored”, creating a place where children thrive and the love of learning burns bright again!
We (re)ignite that passion for learning!

About Us

Barry Horst started teaching eight years ago. During his years in the classroom, he adapted many teaching and instructional techniques to his own style until he developed something that really stood out. He noticed that his students performed much higher on standardized tests than was their projected grade level, some even surpassed every other class in the school!

In 2008 Barry started Wired Minds Tutoring to reignite a passion for learning in the hearts and minds of local students who struggled with a love for learning, or who were not performing to their potential.

We are regularly regaled with stories of students asking their parents to sign them up, students who ask to come in even on snow days, or holidays, and we even have students who pay for sessions out of their own pocket.

We owe our success first of all to God who has gifted every instructor here with a passion for teaching, but also to our undying pursuit of excellence.

In the tutoring field, it is not enough to be good at what you do. To help our students succeed and excel, we must have the best instructors that can be found anywhere. We have become the leader in tutoring by setting a standard of excellence. Other centers must now meet our standard of care and passion. Though some have tried to copy some of our ideas and techniques, in the end it is the student who reaps the benefit!

The Three E’s

Lastly, We have discovered that there are three concepts that work well together to best educate our students. These are to engage, equip, and empower them.First, engaging a student entails building a relationship with him or her to discover their strengths and areas of concern. Engaging the student allows our instructors to get to know the student so their tutoring can be more highly focused. We have also found that because our tutors work on building relationships with their “tutee”, our tutors often function as mentors as well.

The second step in our approach is to equip. Through equipping we discover tools that fit each student uniquely. By making these tools available to our students and modeling how to use them, students can achieve greater success on their own (it’s a great day when a student no longer needs to use our services!).

Our third step is to empower. Empowered students not only possess the tools they need, but they also have the knowledge and skills to use those tools. Often, this can happen so seamlessly, that the student believes that they and they alone are responsible for reaching their goals and that they have accomplished everything by themselves: This is OUR goal, and the student is wired for success!
